Salvadoran President Najib Bukele’s government supports the country’s gasoline market
After the Salvadoran president, Neb Bukele, unveiled a volcanic-powered bitcoin mining facility last week, this Friday, Bukele Tell his followers on Twitter about two positive apps implemented by the government. To start, Bukele explained that he signed a decree authorizing a fund to stabilize gas prices in El Salvador. He indicated that gas prices were expected to rise, but his decree halted the increase.
Bukele stressed that gas prices will in fact see a “slight decrease”. The Salvadoran president revealed that “the government will absorb the increases that occur in the international market for one year.” “If there are reductions, it will be transferred directly to the prices of LPG cylinders (for all brands in our country) for consumers,” Bukele added.
The president also said that households already receiving gas subsidies will continue to receive assistance, and since gas prices will not rise, they will see cutbacks instead. “Not only will it ease the pockets of families, but also the pockets of small businesses, helping to boost our economy, and the most vulnerable sectors will also feel the benefit of the economic growth that our country is experiencing,” Bukele said.
Chivo Wallet users will save $0.20 per gallon
Following these statements, Bukele clarified that users of the Chivo bitcoin wallet will be able to get a gas discount per gallon when they fill it up.
The guidelines for this new discount aren’t entirely clear, but Bukele said that a number of the nation’s largest gas station companies will reduce the price of gas per gallon by $0.20 if a customer uses the Chivo wallet app to pay. He also shared some ads that showed a few participating gas stations. Buckley said:
State-owned Chivo has negotiated with the largest gas station companies in our country, so starting tomorrow, these gas stations will be selling every gallon of fuel $0.20 cheaper, with the Chivo Wallet.
