Movie star Tom Holland's social media X account was recently compromise by pirates.
The account, which has more than 7 million followers, was used by bad actors to announce that the Spider-Man star had launched “Spiderverse” in partnership with the Binance exchange.
The compromised account also attached a link to a fake website, directing users to gain early access to the fraudulent SPIDER cryptocurrency as well as Spiderverse NFTs.
The message, initially pinned to his profile, has already been deleted.
NFT Spider-Man
While Holland's “Spiderverse” post is certainly false, wonder has already delved into Web3.
At the end of 2021, American cinema giant AMC teamed up with Sony Pictures to offer thousands of non-fungible tokens to certain people who purchased tickets for “Spider-Man: No Way Home” in the Netherlands in advance. The film managed to gross over $1.9 billion, becoming a major success. The NFT gadget contributed to the second-largest single-day ticket sales of all time for AMC.
Before that, New Zealand-based NFT company VeVe also partnered with Marvel to offer Spider-Man NFTs. One of the NFTs included the very first Marvel book released in 1939.
Earlier this year, Ethereum-powered digital collectibles platform VeVe also released comic book NFTs featuring Marvel heroes such as Spider-Man, X-Men, and more.
