David Schwartz explains why he thinks XRP-only products are not good for XRP adoption
Ripple’s Chief Technology Officer, David Schwartz, took to Twitter to clarify an important thing he’s often been asked about lately – “if anything should be done to only work with XRP”.
Surprisingly perhaps, but his answer is “no”, and Schwartz also compared XRP to a coconut.
Products should not be focused on anything other than XRP, says CTO
Schwartz believes that instead of running dApps and other products solely on XRP, unless we’re talking about XRPL functionality, developers should make the choice of assets to work with as broad as possible. Here’s how the Ripple CTO puts it: “No, it should work with anything it can be designed to work with.”
The reason given by Schwartz for this position is that products designed to work only with XRP may lose people’s interest in the future. But he and Ripple want XRP to work for as many people as possible.
Many times I am asked if something needs to be done to only work with XRP. Unless it’s an XRPL feature (where XRP is really special because it’s the only native asset), I almost always say “no, it should work with anything it can work with”. 1/5

Here’s why a wide range of integrated assets is important
Now, he says, there are a lot of platforms and products that don’t integrate XRP and when/if they decide to switch, they will struggle. This is why, according to Schwartz, a product should be able to work with a variety of crypto assets, so that if needed, it can easily add the XRP token to its ecosystem.
“It attracts more people to the technology and allows everyone to get better user experiences from this technology. If you can use it even when XRP doesn’t make sense, you can easily use it when XRP makes sense. .”
Coconut opener that helps cook other foods
At the end of the thread, the CTO compared XRP to a coconut, which is known to be difficult to open. Therefore, if you want to make coconuts popular, he says, it would be a good idea to have a “widely marketed tool” that not only opens coconuts, but also “helps to prepare many other foods. “.
Oh, I have an even better analogy. Suppose you want to make whole fresh coconuts popular. But they are difficult for people to open. Would you rather there be a widely marketed tool that only cracks coconuts or a tool that cracks coconuts and also helps prepare many other foods?
