EOS, Telos, WAX and UX Network have come together to take control of the development of the EOSIO protocol base code that underpins each of these blockchains. Collectively, the coalition announced this year to dedicate a whopping $8 million annual budget to grassroots development and developer outreach.
Rebranding EOSIO
According to the press release shared with CryptoPotato, the four blockchains will remain separate from each other and work on adding new features to the EOSIO code base. All of the code developed by the group will be available for any initiative based on the EOSIO protocol. It will be free to use and open source in nature.
The coalition began to form in January this year. At one point, it included various other EOSIO protocol projects such as Ultra, Proton, FIO, EVA, and even the now separate Block.one exchange and NFT projects.
Two months later, ENF founder and “community elected CEO” Yves La Rose, represented by the Telos Core Developers (TCD) led by Douglas Horn, agreed to form an alliance to support the protocol code basic. Soon WAX and UX Network followed suit and joined the coalition. The statement also revealed that other groups may soon join in to contribute and have a say in development priorities.
La Rose called the decision an “important step” and added:
“This coalition represents a monumental shift in direction for the future of the EOSIO protocol and is an important milestone for all companies that leverage its technology. The network effect of multiple EOSIO blockchains working together to ensure the growth and sustainability of our common codebase and associated open source innovations is a force multiplier that will pay dividends for years to come.
Coalition
Coalition members will intervene in the detailed review of the current state of the EOSIO protocol and identify ways to fund priority proposals, and propose a public and specific development roadmap.
The four blockchains based on the EOSIO protocol have their own focus areas and are ready to compete in various fields. The group, as a whole, will focus on areas where chains overlap and incentives are positioned to accelerate core protocol development.
Taking a jibe at Block.one, Douglas Horn, Chief Architect of Telos said,
“This is a watershed moment for the EOSIO protocol. Finally, development is in the hands of users instead of Block.one. Finally, developers will be informed of priorities and code releases so they can build their own development plans. I’m excited about what we can create for users.
