Argentina’s next president is expected to be Javier Milei after his opponent Sergio Massa conceded on Sunday evening, saying “Argentines have chosen another path.” With more than 87% of votes counted, Milei is in the lead with 56% of the vote to Massa’s 44%, according to Bloomberg. Milei, who has previously criticized the country’s central bank, called for its abolition and the return of money to the private sector, representing the “return of money to its original creator.” Although he did not propose making bitcoin legal tender, Milei spoke out against the central bank, calling it a “scam.” Argentina’s economy has been hit hard by inflation, which reached 142% in October. The news led to a nearly 3% increase in the price of bitcoin over the past 24 hours.
