After success launch of Testnet 1, paving the way for the next stage of Streamr Network 1.0, Streamr is excited to announce the launch of Testnet 2! This second incentivized testnet, beginning on December 21 and ending on January 8, 2024, will see a reward pool of 1.5 million DATA tokens (approximately $104,000 USD as of 12/21/24) available to node operators to to start a new generation. decentralized data distribution network.

How to participate in Testnet 2
As with Testnet 1, to earn a share of the DATA rewards, participants will need to either download the latest version of the Streamr node and become a Operatoror simply to delegate their DATA tokens to a reliable operator.
An operator’s nodes follow the protocol rule of correctly forwarding messages to other connected nodes with good availability and sufficient hardware resources to handle the traffic of available incentive flows. Delegates support these operations by providing liquidity in the form of DATA tokens.
Flow Sponsorships are smart contracts that release funds over time to operators (node executors). This system mirrors the service level agreements (SLAs) of traditional networks, ensuring reliable data distribution. The amount of DATA tokens that the operator stakes on the sponsorship determines the size of its share of the token flow.

Testnet 2 details
Testnet 2 will be funded by 1.5 million DATA tokens ($104,000). These stream sponsorships will continue until the end of Testnet 2, which ends on January 8, 2024. Node operator penalties will remain at the same low level as in Testnet 1.
Next-gen use cases to unlock in version 1.0
Milestone 1.0 marks the highlight of 2017 roadmapunleashing peer-to-peer market forces between sponsors and operators so that distribution is paid with Streamr network currency—DATA. This makes the network fully decentralized, production ready and paves the way for the team to explore exciting new use cases:
Version 1.0 will improve the Streamr network positioned to improve the data dissemination capacity of decentralized physical infrastructure networks (DePIN). As DePINs move away from centralized data centers and toward a network of individual contributors, the serverless, secure, and scalable design of the Streamr network shows promise in aligning and offering a platform that helps DePINs to gradually decentralize their technology stack.
Streamr also has the potential to serve as a neutral data layer, providing AI with reliable, tamper-proof access to real-time data streams. This is crucial for the reliability, development and ensuring transparency and security of AI operations. The Streamr network could further be deployed in communication and coordination between AI models. Decentralized video streaming
Behind closed doors (at least for now), Streams has been testing the scalability and stability of decentralized live video streams. Live video streaming with a P2P protocol such as Streamr can provide a path to eliminate the need for centralized intermediaries used today to distribute content around the world. The Streamr protocol allows consumers of live video streams to become the distribution pipeline for the video stream, which could be a more efficient, greener, and scalable distribution mechanism.
