Sen. Ted Cruz (TX-R) has proposed a resolution that would instruct vendors in the Capitol area to work with payment providers that accept bitcoin.
Proposal specifically mentions that restaurants, gift shops and vending machines in Capitol buildings should work with people who accept cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin, which would allow US lawmakers to buy their snacks to go with sound money as they please.
Senator Ted Cruz has been outspoken lawyer for bitcoin before, say that“One of the reasons I’m bullish on bitcoin is that it’s decentralized. The left hates bitcoin because they can’t control it.
Senator Cruz also sees the advantages of bitcoin mining as a potential boon for Texas, a state that has been at the forefront of the industry since China’s ban on bitcoin mining and subsequent hash rate exodus in 2021 .
While the acceptance decision at vendors may be seen as inconsequential, if passed, it could serve as Capitol politicians’ first major exposure to the use of BTC as a daily payment method. Bitcoin may be an abstract concept for those who haven’t seen its use in a payment context, so small resolutions like this can possibly change a politician’s outlook on the fence. The resolution will have to pass both the House and the Senate to take effect.
