On Tuesday, Atlanta-based crypto payments firm Bitpay announced that Israeli software company Wix has enabled its e-commerce platform as a service (SaaS) to accept payments for crypto assets. The integration will allow Wix merchants to accept 12 different cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Dogecoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum, Litecoin, and stablecoins as well.
SaaS Wix implements Bitpay infrastructure so merchants can accept crypto
Founded in 2006, by Israeli software engineers Nadav Abrahami, Avishai Abrahami, and Giora Kaplan, the global SaaS platform Wix provides users with the ability to develop mobile and HTML5 websites with no coding experience. On October 12, Wix announced that it will implement Bitpay’s cryptocurrency payment processing infrastructure so that users can choose it as an option for the Wix e-commerce platform.
Besides five different stablecoins such as BUSD, DAI, GUSD, USDP and USDC, Wix Merchant users can also accept Bitcoin (BTC), bitcoin cash (BCH), dogecoin (DOGE), ethereum (ETH) and Litecoin (LTC), wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC) and XRP (in select jurisdictions). Metrics show that Wix generates around $1 billion in revenue through its product services such as website builder, business management services, and web hosting.
“Wix is one of the largest and most used web development platforms with over 210 million users, so this is another step forward in moving the mainstream cryptocurrency,” Bitpay CEO Stephen Beer said in a statement. “Companies can quickly access the market and generate increased sales by taking advantage of the massive trillion-dollar cryptocurrency market,” the pair added.
Wix Executive notes that the move gives merchants ‘a whole new market for customers who prefer paying with crypto’
Bitpay has made a number of moves in the industry over the past year with well-known companies such as Universal Air Travel Plan (UATP), youth fashion and retail brand Pacsun, Shop.com, Dr. Luke Prescription Songs’ music company, luxury hotel group The Kessler Collection and Verifone. and pet services platform Wag and Shells, the cloud desktop virtual startup, luxury fashion maker Jomashop, and collector of collectible cars, vintage and vintage motorcycles, and Mecum auctions for road art sales.
“We continue to integrate with innovative payment partners to offer Wix merchants more payment options to provide their customers,” said Omar Chatsky, Head of Billing and Payments at SaaS Wix. “With Bitpay, Wix merchants can access a whole new market of customers who prefer to pay with Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies and a way for their businesses to take advantage of the growing cryptocurrency market.”
According to the announcement, in the first phase of Wix rollout, Wix merchants and customers will be able to use Bitpay in the US, UK, Germany, Canada, Australia and Brazil.
