Ethereum’s scaling obstacles have been at the center of technical discussions between DeFi enthusiasts and ETH proponents for some time now. Today at the Shanghai Blockchain Week annual conference, Vitalik Buterin shared some thoughts on the matter.
- Vitalik Buterin, in his opening remarks at this year’s edition of Shanghai Blockchain Week in China, spoke about the future of Ethereum scaling.
- It seems he thinks the only sure way to scale Ethereu while maintaining an interesting level of decentralization is to use Layer 2 solutions.
- He recognized that there is a serious need to make the network more scalable while admitting that Ethereum’s native scaling solutions via sharding would take a long time.
- Instead, Rollups – a well-known and popular Layer 2 solution that handles transactions outside of the Ethereum chain and publishes them to the chain, could provide some serious scalability factor.
- This is not the first time that Buterin has spoken about Rollups and the benefits they could bring to the ecosystem.
- As CryptoPotato reported, he also said it on the Tim Ferris podcast, even going so far as to claim that Ethereum can scale 100x in a matter of months using Rollups. It was in March.
