Kraken is excited to award its latest grant Black Bitcoin Billionaire, the largest organization that aims to promote diversity in cryptocurrencies.
As part of our ongoing efforts to drive global adoption of digital assets, we are donating $150,000 in BTC to Black Bitcoin Billionaire, funds that will be used at the group’s discretion to fund grants to bitcoin and crypto entrepreneurs from minority communities.
Funding will also support Lamar Wilson (Tweet embedand Isaiah JacksonTweet embed), the founders of Black Bitcoin Billionaire, launching a series of ‘Technology Presentation DaysAspiring crypto entrepreneurs will compete for funding.
The first series of three trial days planned will be held in Wednesday 20 October During this time the group will enable entrepreneurs to come up with their ideas.
In 2020, nearly 13% of black households in the United States were unbanked. “This is a colossal failure of our old financial system, for which there is no public alternative as a last resort,” said Jesse Powell, Kraken CEO. Being unbanked is costly and disproportionately affects our poor and minority communities. Bitcoin offers a respite to the world’s estimated 1.7 billion unbanked adults – a new financial system by the people, for the people’s sake. The only obstacle now is education.”
“Our primary focus is education and support for the Black Bitcoin community,” said Lamar Wilson. “By working with companies like Kraken, we will be able to invest in technology that will develop ideas into tangible products or services. We couldn’t be more excited.”
The announcement comes at a time when Kraken is seeking to expand its charitable giving efforts to include initiatives beyond open source technical development.
So far, Kraken has given grants to projects such as Gitcoin, Brink, and BTCPay Server, which promote the leading open source cryptocurrency traded on global exchanges.
