Viral Canadian rapper Drake made waves last week when he placed over $1.26 million worth of BTC in Super Bowl LVI bets, taking to Instagram to show the world his bitcoin casino bet and the sports betting platform, Stake.
Drake risked over $471,000 on the Rams to win, receiving a payout of over $711,000. The rapper also placed two other bets centering on Rams superstar and Bitcoiner Odell Beckham Jr.
The bets both risked $393,000 apiece that Beckham would go over 62.5 receiving yards and score at least one touchdown, winning the $844,000 payout for Odell scoring a first-quarter touchdown. Drake didn’t win his last bet as Beckham’s night ended early with a knee injury, completing just 52 years of receiving according to CBS Sports.
If the last bet had come true, Drake would have brought in another $711,000 in Bitcoin, for a total of $2.27 million, but would instead have walked away with a profit of just over $1.5 million. With celebrities like Drake taking big BTC positions in sports betting, the bitcoin sports betting landscape has become much more exciting.
“It’s everything I ever dreamed of, you know,” Beckham told CBS Sports. “And there was a time when I was in the back room and they told me I was done, I couldn’t play. And I had to come back there and be a part of that because it’s so much bigger than me. And those boys made it and did it.”
Last fall, Beckham opted to accept his new salary in bitcoin, becoming one of the latest NFL stars to do so alongside Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
