A simple blockchain game was behind a massive increase in daily transactions on the Sui network, with one data platform even suggesting that it has overtaken Solana in terms of network activity.

Similar to 2014’s viral browser-based puzzle game 2048, Sui 8192 is a sliding tile game where players use their arrow keys to move and combine tiles until they reach a tile worth 8192. It was first lspear in October 2022.

Each instance of the game hits a new object, similar to hitting an NFT, and every in-game move is recorded as a transaction and therefore requires a gas fee payment, according to a July 10 blog post from the Sui Foundation.

The game was designed by Sui wallet provider Ethos Wallet as the first fully blockchain Sui game. It is open-source and was intended to serve as an example of how applications could evolve on the Sui blockchain.

Daily transactions reach 20 million

A recent Twitter post from on-chain analytics provider Artemis even suggests that the game has helped the Sui Network outperform Solana in daily transactions.

Data from Artemis shows that Sui Network’s transaction count recently topped 20 million, surpassing Solana’s 16 million daily transactions – although it admitted to using a different methodology to calculate daily transactions for Sui Network. .

This is because Artemis counts blocks of transactions for Sui instead of transactions when comparing with Ethereum and other chains, he said.

Meanwhile, an initiative called Bullshark Quests by Mysten Labs has also been seen as a driver on Sui. Over the next few weeks, Bullshark owners can compete for rewards based on their engagement with various Sui games such as Sui 8192, according at Mysten Labs.

SUI prices were down 0.5% on the day at $0.678 at the time of writing.

Cointelegraph contacted Solana for its opinion on the daily transaction data, but did not receive an immediate response.
